When we think of an ideal food combination, most of the time we think of steak and potatoes, eggs and bacon or cookies and milk. But according to Alexandra Caspero, a registered dietitian and nutrition expert, combining certain foods may provide you better health.

“Combining certain foods can make nutritious meals even healthier”, says Caspero. You can boost your health if trying these simple and tasty food combinations:

1. Lean Beef and Broccoli

Iron deficiency is the most common nutritional deficiency in the world and it most often happens to women. Iron deficiency can cause blood problems and tiredness. Because vitamin C helps the absorption of iron, combining beef, which is rich in iron with lentil, broccoli or tomatoes which are rich in vitamin C, is an excellent way to increase iron levels.

2. Apples and Berries

Fruit contains phytochemicals, healthy antioxidants that can lower the cancer and heart diseases risk. According to a study, when eating different fruits, their antioxidants multiply. The same study has shown that antioxidants activity rises when people eat fruit combinations.

3. Tomatoes and Avocado

Tomatoes get their light red color from the lycopene, a healthy carotenoid that has antioxidant contents. It also blocks the increase of cancer cells. It is time to add some sliced tomatoes or avocado in your guacamole.

Calcium and vitamin D are the most nutritional components for strong bones. Caspero advises combining tuna, which is rich in vitamin D or salmon with kale, which is a great source of calcium.
