The gums are the soft tissue that covers the root of the tooth and keeps it in place. Gum recession occurs when the margin of the gum tissue around the tooth pulls back or wears away, and the tooth becomes more visible.
This condition leads to gaps or pocket formation between the teeth, which are a perfect location for the bacteria development.
Teeth are more sensitive and painful as they are more visible. Additionally, the supporting tissue and the bone structure may experience damage and lead to tooth loss. This tooth problem can often be ignored, because it develops gradually and slowly. First, you need to know the symptoms to treat receding gums on time.
Sensitivity of the teeth and toothache are the first sign that you are dealing with the problem of receding gums. Also, if a tooth increases its size, it may indicate this problem as well.
What can cause receding gums?
Poor Oral Hygiene
Not brushing teeth daily can allow plague deposits on teeth, which will lead to calculus formation, a hard substance that causes gum recession.
This may damage the tooth enamel and lead to receding gums.
Bacterial infections of the gums destroy the supporting tooth bone and trigger many other symptoms.
This problem occurs most often in women. The hormone imbalance in the body can cause sensitive gums.
Besides the other health problems this habit brings, sticky plague is easily accumulated on the smokers’ teeth. This may be the reason for receding disease.
Genetic predisposition to have receding gums is another cause of this problem.
How to treat receding gums?
You can avoid surgery and try treating this condition with a few natural homemade remedies. In the case of a severe gum infection, contact your dentist before you start using some of the following treatments:
Green tea is rich in antioxidants that help you get rid of the free radicals, which may cause a periodontal disease.
This tea also contains catechins, a powerful antioxidant which treats periodontal disease. This ingredient strengthens the connection between the teeth and gums and reduces the gum swelling thanks to the powerful anti-inflammatory properties. Start drinking this tea every morning.
Aloe Vera is an herb that is most often used in skin care because of the repairing and anti-inflammatory effects. Also, because of its antibacterial properties, aloe Vera can treat inflammation, repair the damaged tissue and prevent infections.

Oil pulling is the best remedy for this problem, including other oral diseases too. It offers strong anti-inflammatory effects, removes toxins and plaque deposits. For example, sesame seeds create a protective layer over the teeth to prevent plaque accumulation.
Warm the oil first, but it shouldn’t be hot. Rinse your mouth with it after brushing the teeth. Rinse and gargle for 30 seconds to 1 minute. Gradually, increase the time of rinse to 15-20 minutes.

Moreover, eucalyptus successfully reduces gum swelling because of its potent anti-inflammatory properties. Don’t forget to mix it with water before use because it may be strong.
Add 1-2 drops of this oil in 1-2 tablespoons of water. Soak your toothbrush in the liquid and apply it on the gums. Massage gently to treat and prevent receding gums.
